The Power of Lifestyle on Metabolic Health

by Larisa Belote

Metabolic Health is at the root of so many health challenges.  It is tied to chronic disease, immune system challenges and Alzheimer’s just to name a few.

Did you know that:

1.     Only 7% of Americans have good cardiometabolic health.  This means that 93% of Americans are struggling with their metabolic health. All diseases including cancer, chronic diseases and immune challenges are tied to metabolic health. and we must be metabolically healthy to prevent all these diseases.

2.     60% of Americans have at least 1 chronic disease; 40% have 2 or more.  This is due to poor lifestyle choices.  Lifestyle is so powerful that you can choose tools to prevent chronic diseases.

3.     800 Million people worldwide are obese. Obesity kills more people than smoking.  Childhood obesity puts extra stress on the cardiovascular system. If kids that are 7,8,9 years old are obese now with their body storing glucose in the brain, in the eyes, in the heart and the liver.

Metabolic Health is when your glucose and insulin systems are in balance.  When you eat, your glucose goes up which is normal. Your body releases insulin which then takes this glucose and delivers it to the cell where it will be used.  Once it goes into the cell, it creates a chemical reaction that makes the cell function well.

When someone is metabolically challenged, insulin can’t get glucose into the cell and it stores it in places like liver, eyes (macular degeneration), in the brain (Alzheimer’s) and as fat.

When metabolic health is poor and glucose is stored in other areas, blood pressure and cholesterol can go up, liver challenges like high liver enzymes and high Hemoglobin A1C.

Women are suffering the most with the above statistics.  Here is the breakdown:

1.     41% of Women over 21 are obese.

2.     45% of women have high blood pressure – not being taught lifestyle but given medications

3.     1 out 5 women will develop Alzheimer’s – Alzheimer’s is also known as Type 3 Diabetes.

4.     1 out of 8 women will develop a Thyroid problem – which comes with weight gain, anxiety, hair falling out and taking a pill does not solve the problem.

5.     1 out of 9 Women have Type 2 Diabetes

6.     1 out of 5 Women can’t get pregnant within a 1 year of trying

7.     80% of Autoimmune conditions are happening to Women – like Hashimoto’s, RA, Lupus which are debilitating conditions that can be cleaned up with Lifestyle

8.     45-55 is the most common time for a woman to commit suicide

When women go to the doctor, one of the challenges is that they are given a one size fits all solution. There is no difference of protocol between men and women. She is not being asked anything about her cycle or hormones.  Doctors look at the blood work markers and prescribe meds.  They are not looking at what part of the cycle she is on, metabolic health or lifestyle and what she can do to clean that up. In fact, there was a study conducted that showed that in the front half of a woman’s cycle, her cholesterol naturally goes up.  Doctor’s don’t know that testing of cholesterol for women should be the second part of her cycle to get proper results.

When we come back to Lifestyle for both men and women and teach how you are supposed to fast and eat, when you understand hormones and learn how to pair up Lifestyle to match her hormones, we can end these statistics.
