On a sunny Sunday afternoon, Alex and Jordan made their way to Ocean Ave., where they happily planted themselves on their usual spot on the beach at Spring Lake. It was another glorious day, filled with so much gratitude for their lifestyle together. Coming in from the city was the perfect release from a hectic week and spending the weekends at the beach was their summer routine for 5 years now.
Alex was always the one who initiated everything in their relationship. He planned and organized it all and filled the calendar with social events. While it drove Jordan a little batty, he did love the way Alex always seemed to have everything situated in perfect sequence.
As the two sipped their cocktail out of a Yeti, Alex said, "You know, lately I've been thinking about our legacy. What do you want to be remembered for long after you're gone?" Jordan looked at him, weirdly and said, “Why? “Are you planning on me going somewhere?” Alex confirmed with laughter, “For me,” he said, “it's about inspiring the next generation. To be someone who shows that you can chase dreams no matter where you come from." Jordan thinks about it for a moment, and takes another sip of his drink. “Since my last birthday, and since my doctor read me the riot act on starting to eat healthier, I've actually pondered on that a lot. I think I'd like to be remembered as someone who genuinely cared for others, and who made a difference in small yet impactful ways.” Jordan adds, “It’s easy to just write a check, and give. But it’s something more to give of yourself. Give your time, share yourself, and see it through your eyes.” Jordan, paused. “That’s what I’d like to do.” Alex said. And happily, immediately had an idea to get the ball rolling.
Questions like these provide a unique window into one's beliefs, values, regrets, and aspirations, leading to personal growth and introspection. Here are four thought-provoking statements that could potentially inspire introspection and self-reflection – grab your journal, and favorite beverage, and really think about how you would answer the following questions:
1. If you could start over, knowing what you know now, what would you do differently?
2. Are you living your life in alignment with your deepest values and aspirations, or are you living according to someone else's expectations?
3. Imagine you're at the end of your life looking back - are you satisfied with the legacy you're leaving behind?
4. If fear wasn't a factor, what would you dare to do with your life?
Remember, the goal is not to cause distress but to encourage reflection and promote the examination of one's life, choices, and potential for change and growth. Your Self-reflection will ultimately result in your inspiration and empowerment of your soul's desires. This is a deeply interconnected process that can significantly enhance your personal growth and self-awareness.
Engaging in self-reflection involves taking time to introspectively examine one's thoughts, feelings, and actions. And will no doubt help you to access a part of yourself that has been ignored and repeatedly overlooked.
When you finish the questions, feel free to share this exercise with someone you love, as it will hopefully open the dialogue for a more intimate connection.
